As we wrote last week, the Australian Government has warned of a sustained cyber targeting of Australian governments and organisations by a sophisticated state-based actor.

The tactics and techniques being used seek to leverage a number of initial access vectors, particularly the exploitation of public-facing infrastructure. Other vulnerabilities include exploitation of a deserialisation vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), a 2019 SharePoint vulnerability and the 2019 Citrix vulnerability.

This comes at a time when Australian organisations are already facing increased cybersecurity risks with many workplaces having moved rapidly to remote working arrangements, potentially exposing new cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
