Mission-critical IT system availability. Strict uptime requirements. 1.5 million people throughout regional NSW depend on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service to be on call and ready to respond 24/7.

The community’s own Rescue Helicopter’s service areas stretch from the Hawkesbury south of Newcastle all the way up to the Queensland border. Four bases located in Broadmeadow, Belmont, Tamworth and Lismore host the Rescue Helicopter’s fleet that fly over 2,000 life saving hours each year.

WRHS partners with Forsythes Technology for its entire IT portfolio across all bases. We provide managed IT, dedicated cloud, business communications including telephony, video conferencing and mobile fleet management, SharePoint development and SAP Business One support.

How We’ve Helped

Forsythes Technology was tasked with developing a robust, scalable and holistic IT solution that would enable WRHS to focus on delivering its life-saving service across regional NSW. This required delivering on strict uptime guarantees.

Video conferencing solutions have assisted in keeping the four bases connected. Staff are able to hold routine daily meetings using the LifeSize conferencing solution, making multi-base collaboration simple and efficient.

The conferencing technology is frequently used by helicopter engineers to hold remote maintenance meetings, ensuring the fleet is mission-ready.

“We need to focus on the core part of the operation – rescuing lives. So, anything that takes away from that is a problem. Having Forsythes manage our technology needs and knowing they understand our business means we can stay focused on what matters.”

The Results

Video conferencing across the four bases is used for an average of 9,000 minutes per month. Travel time and related costs for staff have been dramatically reduced.

Most importantly, we’re helping to enable the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to be there for the community 24/7.

“Just wanted to pass on a quick thank you for the outstanding work regarding the phone system cut over. We had a very fine window and this was only achievable through the skills of your team, so thank you guys.”
